He appeared to have the race at his mercy when jinking and unseating ‘Choc’ Thornton having jumped the second last (rider lost iron) at Leicester 23 days ago and he’s now effectively a winner without a penalty.

He made a big impression when striking first time up in this sphere at Uttoxeter in March and he has been given plenty of time to improve both physically and mentally. Always held in high regard by Alan King, he should take all the beating today.

Today’s tip comes from Newbury where RUSTARIX looks good value in an open race. Alan King’s gelding came good under today’s pilot when scoring on his reappearance at the recent Cheltenham meeting and could still be well handicapped despite a 4lb rise for that success. He displayed admirable resolution to land the spoils on good ground but is equally effective on terrain with cut so today’s conditions could be well in his favour.

Today’s tip comes from Stratford where AOHNA looks to make amends for letting a healthy lead slip LTO. Looked a sure winner LTO over C&D on the same ground but made a bad mistake at the last and had to cling to 3rd place. The horse has been raised 3lbs for that last run but Alan King has booked Charlie Huxley to claim 3lbs to offset the weight rise and Huxley shows a profit of 10.43 on King’s hurdlers over the past 5 seasons. He will be well suited by the good ground today and assuming he hurdles well today he should go close.
