Today’s tip comes from Newbury where RUSTARIX looks good value in an open race. Alan King’s gelding came good under today’s pilot when scoring on his reappearance at the recent Cheltenham meeting and could still be well handicapped despite a 4lb rise for that success. He displayed admirable resolution to land the spoils on good ground but is equally effective on terrain with cut so today’s conditions could be well in his favour.

Coventry runner-up ELZAAM has been given plenty of time to recover from the problems he encountered after finishing a disappointing third in the July Stakes at Newmarket and he is still held in the highest regard by Michael Jarvis. Almost certain to appreciate the step up from 6f, he is fancied to take advantage of this ease in grade.
